An extremist student has beaten a Hindu teacher to death in Dhaka Savar.
A Hindu teacher who was beaten by a college student in Ashulia, Savar, has died in the ICU.
He died at the Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar on Monday (June 27) morning after two days in the ICU. The information was confirmed by Asim Kumar Sarkar, brother of the slain college teacher.
The deceased was identified as Utpal Kumar Sarkar. He was a lecturer in the political science department of Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Chitrashail area of Ashulia and chairman of the disciplinary committee. His village home is in Sirajganj district.
Meanwhile, two days after the incident, the police could not arrest the accused student Ashraful Islam Jitu. He is studying 10th class science in that college. He lives with his family in Jamgarh area. The student has been absconding since the incident.
Earlier on Saturday (June 25, 2022) at around 2pm, Ashraful Islam Jitu, a student of Haji Yunus Ali School and College, launched a surprise attack on Utpal Kumar Sarkar.
After the attack, the teacher was taken to the local Women and Child Health Center Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. He died in the ICU on Monday morning.
Authorities at Enam Medical College Hospital said Utpal’s body was internal bleeding from the injury. He underwent major surgery on his abdomen.
Police said the girls were playing cricket at the school. Ashraful suddenly hit college teacher Utpal, who was standing on one side of the field at noon, with a cricket stamp. Utpal sustained serious head injuries due to the stamp strike.
It is learned that Utpal was the convener of the discipline and environment committee of the college. He used to counsel students on various behavioral issues including asking them to cut their hair at different times. He also tried various crimes. Maybe for some reason the student is thought to have had some resentment towards that teacher.
Ashulia police SI said the investigation officer of the case. Emdadul Haque said, I have talked to the relatives and eyewitnesses of the deceased. Investigations are ongoing. Attempts are being made to arrest the culprit quickly.
